I tried the “one-click” installation of WP through my host (justhost.com) and it failed, but now when I try to install WP manually it tells me I’ve already installed. I’ve searched for the uninstallation file (or any installation file, for that matter) on my mac, but nothing shows up. Does anyone have a guess as to where these files might have installed, or how to get WP to install manually, anyway?

  • What happens when you go to the wp-admin URL?

If you installed into https://mydomain.com/wordpress/ for example, the admin is found at https://mydomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/
What happens when you go there and try to log on?

At either address, I get the following error:

    Not Found

The requested URL /wordpress was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Somewhere in the install process I was instructed to bookmark https://mydomain.com/wp-admin, but I get the following message:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at 69.175.35.114. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

The Error establishing a database connection message means the configuration in the wp-config.php file does not match the actual database host/name/user/password in some way. Since you did an auto-install that should not be a problem, as the installer is supposed to set that op for you.

I saw that justhost.com is a free host. Free hosts are sometimes problematic with WordPress as it is a pretty big program. If you are serious about putting up a site, you are better off going to a good, paid host. (GoDaddy is not at the top of the list of good WordPress hosts)

If you just want to learn, consider doing a local install on your computer using XAMP WAMP or MAMP – that will also be free, and it will work.

I have just auto installed word press in my site – http//www.qualman.co.in. However, I cannot do any thing – how can I write a blog? Which file should I access in order to do so? The index. php file is blank if I open it in web server.

when I go to wp-admin and open it, I get this message:

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page

You are getting forbidden error then there should a permission problem with wp-admin folder.

    Kailash

set permission of wp-admin folder via FTP as 777

I encountered the exact same thing as artbylinds… I’m using justhost as well… and I thought it is one of the recommendations by wordpress themselves. I almost went nuts since just host is not that user-friendly. So does it mean I shouldn’t be using JustHost?

How to set permission of wp-admin folder via FTP as 777? I installed through one click installation in my website. The software was provided by the host.

folks – it is very simple
if you did the one click install through your host – get them to either fix it or get you an install that is working – that’s their job – it’s what you pay for
we can not troubleshoot problems caused by the one click install software – this is not a wp problem
also, your host can fix this quicker than the time you have spent here

Yes, I ultimately had my host fix this problem.

JustHost isn’t a free host, but it is cheap. They do, however, have very good support. I didn’t try their support initially because the one-click install says that it just installs and doesn’t provide support, so I thought that WordPress might have some advice on where files are typically stored, as I thought I could fix the problem myself if I could just find the files to delete. However, upon talking to support at JustHost, they fixed the problem and reinstalled for me.

    Thanks for the tips, everyone!
