    HELP!! WP-Experts very welcome

I signed up with my host Dotster.com on 15th of October. Since than I try to install WP without having it running so far. I have read probably every post about installing WP at Dotster, there are not many anyway but there are either a couple of years old or not exactly my topic. Dotster support is equal zero, you can just forget it, so it’s been very frustrating the last two weeks.

I was able to get FileZilla running and upload WP to the host server. I created a host database, with username and password, I did move these data’s to the wp-config.
I read recently about .htaccess-file with content of: index.php,
    index.html and index.htm.
Nothing works so far and WP is NOT installed on the host server yet.

My questions to the experts would be:
    1. which is the exact external hostname of the database, I have to put
    into wp-config?
    2. which is the exact folder on the host server, I have to copy the
    wp-files in? (it’s in /webspace/httpdocs/WordPress/ now)
    3. how would I do the exact installation with Filezilla anyway?
    I don’t see a command line and it’s not executing on a double-click
    on the wp-install.php
    4. is it true to have the .htaccess file copied to wp main directory
    before installing on dotster server?
    5. Is it true to change dotster file permission settings and if yes,
to which code? I read about 666 or 777

PLEASE, experts I need your advice….

  • 1. We can’t really answer that. You need to get that information from your hosts. It should be documented somewhere.

    2. That’s fine for now.

    3. See Installing_WordPress and use the Help & documentation for Filezilla.

    4 & 5. No idea – sorry.

    OK… here it is:

Dotster.com has an automatic WordPress installation, which works like this (assumed the database is already created and everything is done I was mentioning in my first post):

    1. login to your host Dotster.com
    2. click on “hosting and services”
    3. click on “control panel”
    4. click on “Web-Applications”
    5. click on “Blogging and Content Management”
    6. click on “WordPress”
    7. click on your “Domain Name”
    8. at <Administrator’s preferences> fill in your password
at <Main configuration> fill in your email address (the one you
gave to Dotster.com as well) and choose your BLOG NAME
    than click on “configure”
    9. on the next site you will see all the inputs you made and if OK
    click on “NEXT”
    10. and than click on “FINISH” it needs about 30 minutes this
automatic WP-Installation is done and available for your website.

to get to the WP-Dashboard follow steps 1 to 6 and if you see your domain name, to the total right of the name, you see <login> that’s
    your dash board entrance.

Rem: do not update to WP ver. 3.2.1 because the PHP Version is not the one is needed for that.

Thank you Lord, after 2 weeks finally WP success… I celebrate now

… I forgot to mention, no Filezilla necessary for the automatic installation…
