WP Importer and CPT UI and ACF

  • Hi, I have been trying for three days to import ‘SR_Courses’ from my other site (which was closed down 12/28) into my new site using WP Importer, CPT UI Custom Post Type and ACF Advanced Custom Fields Plugins.

    Even after I created the post type, categories and custom fields, I can not get all of the data to import to the new site. Only the title. Can you help?

    Hey there @ishareknowledge – I think the first step would be to verify that your import file actually contains all the information for your Courses custom post type.

    How did you export the data from the original site?

    Have you double-checked your file in a code editor to verify that all the data is actually there?

    For a complex site with custom post types normally I would recommend using a plugin like All In One Migration.

    Thanks Kathryn for your prompt response. I have used All-in-One before and it caused a critical error. I have examined the xml file. All of the data is there. I am wondering if I am not naming the custom fields correctly. Can I send you the xml file and you can examine it?

    How did you export the data from the original site?

    Sure, you’re welcome to provide the XML. You can put it in a Gist on GitHub if you have an account there, upload it to your site (via SFTP or another means) and provide a link here, or whatever other method you prefer.

    You might also want to ask the plugin devs over at CPT UI Custom Post Type and ACF Advanced Custom Fields to have a look, since they are the experts in that type of data and are probably better placed to troubleshoot why your import isn’t working. ??

    Kathryn, thanks for your message. I used the WP Import/Export Tool to export the .xml file.

    I think there is a simple solution in that I am probably using the wrong ‘custom field’ naming conventions. Thanks!
