    Hi,

I am experiencing a specific issue with the interaction between WP Hide and WP Staging, which is affecting the accessibility of my staging sites. I use WP Hide for two main purposes on my production site: to create a new custom URL for accessing the WordPress admin area and to block access to the default “wp-admin” URL. This setup works perfectly on my production site. However, it leads to complications when creating staging sites with WP Staging.

    Issue Description:

    • On my production site, with WP Hide active, I have a custom admin URL set up and access to “wp-admin” blocked.
    • When I create a staging site with WP Staging while these WP Hide settings are active, I am unable to access the admin area of the staging site using my custom admin URL. The blockage of “wp-admin” also applies to the staging site, which seems to prevent access through the custom URL.
    • To access the admin area of the staging site, I have to temporarily disable the blockage of “wp-admin” on the production site, then create the staging site. This allows access to the staging site’s admin area, but it exposes the default admin URL on my production site, which is a security concern.

    Details:

    • WordPress Version: 6.4.1
    • WP Staging Version: 3.1.3
    • WP Hide Version: 6.2.8 (the last)

Question: Is there a way to ensure that the WP Hide settings (both the custom admin URL and the blockage of “wp-admin”) are retained and functional on the staging sites created with WP Staging? I am looking for a solution that allows me to maintain my security settings without compromising the functionality of the staging environment.

Maintaining the security of both my production and staging environments is crucial. I would greatly appreciate any guidance, workaround, or solution you could provide to help resolve this compatibility issue.

Thank you for your assistance and attention to this matter.

I guess WP Hide depends on the post name permalink structure and does not work with plain permalinks.

So you could try to activate the option “Keep permalinks active” in wp staging settings and then create a new staging site.

Additionally, you could disable the WP staging extra login form to see if this makes a difference for WP Hide.

If this does not work, you will likely need a staging site created in a subdomain.

Please let me know how it goes. Fingers crossed!

    All the best
    René
