I have GA Google Analytics plugin in WPress

Here i have put the Global site tag taken from GA

In the settings for GA tracking, how do we know which setting to use in the “tracking method” section?

I have a UA code at the top under GA tracking ID.

But my web person has also just put into the source code somewhere a GA Global site tag.
The “tracking method” turned on at the moment here is for Universal Analytics ( analyticsjs )default.

But should it be Global site tag ??( new method )

also, do i need this code at all if i already am connected to SC with a meta tag from Yoast plugin?

    Thanks for any advice

    Glad to help:

    1) “In the settings for GA tracking, how do we know which setting to use in the “tracking method” section?”

The settings change automatically depending on which tracking method is selected. There is nothing to worry about, the plugin does it for you.

    2) “But my web person has also just put into the source code somewhere a GA Global site tag. The “tracking method” turned on at the moment here is for Universal Analytics ( analyticsjs )default. But should it be Global site tag ??”

I’m not understanding what this means. Can you clarify or elaborate so I can try to help asap.

    3) “do i need this code at all if i already am connected to SC with a meta tag from Yoast plugin?”

This plugin does one thing and one thing only: adds the required tracking code to your WP site. Not sure about Yoast, I don’t use it for any sites.

I hope this helps, please let me know if any further questions, etc. Glad to help anytime.

    Thank you Jeff
I will try and explain as a lay person here!

So the GA plugin has UA code in the ID, then the method is for UA default.
I’m guessing this means there is already a code linking GA and WP here?

Confusion is – my web person, who isn’t sure exactly how to do this – put the global site tag taken from GA into the website source code recently as thought the correct thing to do as we don’t have a gstag anywhere…..

So when in GA plugin she saw that it was not set for global site tag but instead method is UA?

So do we need that gstag at all? if it has been put into the source code along with the UA somewhere is that causing conflict?

Also we have the meta tag from Search Console in WP webmaster??

I have been trying to sort this out for a long time and my website remains ineffective…do we have too many things conflicting here?
Any help gratefully received, i can try and piece it all together

Hmm, not sure but will give it a try:

    1) “I’m guessing this means there is already a code linking GA and WP here?”

Yes the plugin adds the required tracking code to your pages. You can view the source code of your pages to verify, etc.

    2) “So when in GA plugin she saw that it was not set for global site tag but instead method is UA?”

Yeah you just enter the tracking ID that Google gives you, and enter in the plugin setting, “GA Tracking ID”.

    3) “So do we need that gstag at all? if it has been put into the source code along with the UA somewhere is that causing conflict?”

There shouldn’t be any conflict if you follow the steps provided in the plugin documentation. The steps also are provided on the plugin settings page under “How to use”.

    4) “Also we have the meta tag from Search Console in WP webmaster??”

No idea, maybe ask Google support they should be able to understand and help you out.

    5) “I have been trying to sort this out for a long time and my website remains ineffective…do we have too many things conflicting here?”

Again no idea, but if you have to ask then the answer may be “yes”. Maybe try simplifying and/or test things out on a fresh WP install will yield better results and more clues.

@realme29 I have archived your many duplicate topics. Don’t do that please, you just waste your and volunteers time when you make 5 topics for the same thing.

I also have the UA code from Ga in my GA plugin in wordpress

Unless you post in the support forum for whatever plugin you are using, you are never going to get the correct answer.

Apologies, i did try and delete excess posts, but couldn’t. when i submitted the post, they didn’t show up immediately, so thought they hadn’t gone thru.

How does it work on here? I have had some v helpful comments previously.

If i feel a subject is finished, do i add the ‘resolved topic’ myself?

Can i delete a post if done in error?

Can i reply to an old post of a similar topic – if there’s more to be said?

I did search for the correct forum and posted, but i didn’t think this forum was still active

Can it please be left in the last forum location. Thank you and sorry for the confusion. I have to admit, i find it hard to navigate on here…but my problem!

Hi Jan. The old post you have put at the top of this is still not resolved for me. this updated question is different from the one above. Can i post this somewhere please? Otherwise delete it and sorry

I have GA Google Analytics plugin in WPress

Here i have put the UA code taken from GA property into ID section at the top
The “tracking method” turned on at the moment here is for Universal Analytics ( analyticsjs )default.

But i also have the gtag.js put into my website source code ( GA Global site tag.)

Should i delete the UA code in ID and just use the gtag.js and switch tracking method to this also?

I see that it either OR for these codes. I am using both….what do i do please
