WP FUll calendar load date without shortcode

Is there a way to get the WP FUll calendar to load/reload at a specific start date without using the shortcodes? I have tried to use the shortcode for this but it didn’t change anything. I’m a bit confused about the two options for displaying the calendar – I have specified the above calendar page (i.e. without using a shortcode) in the EM settings but then can’t see how to add a setting telling it when to load. It’s a bit annoying as our festival programme for next month is live but on viewing the visitor sees an empty calendar – i.e. this month.
