• Apologies in advance as I am not the techiest person.

I have 3 WPForms on my website, Review Requests, Beta Reading and Contact. I was contacted on another site by someone who had sent a message using the Beta reading form but received no reply. I received no such email.

I tested out all three forms, and two were working but the Beta Reading was not. I could not receive emails using that form. I deleted and recreated the form and still could not receive emails.

Googling told me to install WP Mail SMTP, so I did. I followed instructions and the test email correctly sends to my account. The only problem is now, none of my contact forms work. I enter the information and check my email and I receive nothing.

Email test always works, however, I do get a pop up stating “Action Needed: It doesn’t look like the SPF record required by your SMTP server has been added to your domain. Please contact your SMTP server provider for details on how to find the SPF record, and how to add this record to your domain’s DNS.”

Not sure what to do here. I am with Eco Web Hosting and my email is Stackmail.

Update 1: I’ve now set up an SPF record and the test email is coming through with no problems.
When sending a test email I get the following message: Success!
Test HTML email was sent successfully! Please check your inbox to make sure it was delivered.

And I receive the email in my inbox.

However, when I fill in the contact form it does not go through and instead I get the following notification from WP Mail:

(`Heads up! The last email your site attempted to send was unsuccessful.

    Email Source: WPForms Lite
    Mailer: Other SMTP
SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: (admin email): Cannot send a message as (email I am using to test). Please send as (admin email)

    What is going on here?

    (I’ve removed emails for privacy)

Update 2: Okay if I use my own email in the contact form, I can use it. But any other email fails. Is there a reason for this?

    Hello @booklabyrinth,

Thanks for writing in and we’re sorry to hear about the trouble you’re facing.

When you get the chance, can you please try setting the From email to an email that matches your site URL? For example, if your site’s URL is example.com, try an email like [email protected].

Please also set the From and Send to Email Address settings to different emails.

In case it helps, the {admin_email} Smart Tag is the email that is set as your WordPress administration email that you can find in WP Admin > Settings > General > Administration Email Address.

    I hope this helps.
