I mention my host, because SG apparently use a very unique staging system, which for the most part works quite nicely, except that I can’t seem to get WP Forms to work in a staging site using just the built in WP phpMailer. The thing is WP Forms is working fine using just phpMailer on all my live sites as long as I don’t use Gmail. I use my own domain email to receive all form notifications.

With that said, I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just bite the bullet and install your SMTP plugin on all my sites, including the staging site. Then again, will the SMTP plugin work in a SG staging site, because it is a bit of a setup I’m not really keen to work through if it isn’t going to work in a staging, in which case considering I don’t actually need the form to work in development I might just leave it until I push live.

However, like a lot of other people, I do have a lot of time on my hands right now to run some extra tests…

    Hi @sean-h,

If your notification settings are correct, the issue is likely due to incorrect server settings, and/or strict email spam prevention settings that are wrongly detecting the notification emails as spam.

As different ISPs and email service providers use different factors as metrics to filter spam or block emails, some notification emails are received, while some do not.

The best way to resolve email delivery issues like this is to configure a SMTP plugin on your site so that emails are sent as authenticated.

We have an article with a list of recommended SMTP options and links to their setup tutorials.

    I hope this helps ??

    Hi Ethan,

I don’t think it’s incorrect server settings, but more the way the Siteground staging environment works. I think it’s safe to say that there are many other things that won’t work in a development site in a password protected directory.

I installed a test form in the live version of the site and it works with the standard phpMailer.

But yes, I think I will be installing an SMTP mailer but only after I’ve pushed the site live.

Thanks again for the help ??

    Sean H.
