wp files to root
-
I originally uploaded wp into a /wp rather than at the root, thinking that people would land on the web page I have used for the past six years. WP won me over. I would like to have it at the root so that the WP theme is consistent throughout my site. I am COMPLETELY new at this. I understand how to change the WordPress address and Blog address to the root location in wp-admin. Beyond that, I am lost.
The instructions say to move the WP core files to the new location. I am not familiar with the “move” procedure…nor where I find the “core files.” I’m not concerned about writing over the existing website files since I have the content on my hard drive. [I assume “index.php” will overwrite “index.html” or at least, when .php gets to the same folder as the .html, I’d better delete the index.html.]
1How can I successfully move the WP files, or should I download another copy of WP into the root?
2I would also like to be able to give my pages names relative to their content. /about, /contact, etc. rather than the funky numbers and characters. Is this possible?Thank you.
