    WP Engine does not support WordFence config import anymore

    https://wpengine.com/support/htaccess-deprecation/

    When I attempt to import I receive the following;

    An error occurred: Unable to save the .htaccess file needed to disable script execution in the uploads directory. Please check your permissions on that directory.

    Is there an alternative way to import the settings? WP Engine basically said it’s not their problem ???♂?

    Hi @mrcarllister, thanks for getting in touch.

    The error you mention is from the Wordfence option “Disable Code Execution for Uploads directory“, and as WP Engine don’t allow the writing of an .htaccess it is causing the import to fail.

    The main workaround for this is to import your configuration into a clean installation elsewhere, disabling the problem option above, re-exporting and then importing the new token to your site on WP Engine. If you still have access to the original site you exported from, you only need to disable the option and run the export process again.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    @wfpeter hi I have the same concern. what happens though when wpengine totally disables support for htaccess. they are removing support of htaccess on some of our sites on march 7 so what are the implications? will we lose the extended protection?
