• Hi folks.
First: a big thank-you to the volunteers who provide support here. It’s appreciated.
Second: Just created a new site using WP. First-time user. About 2 days after I launched, my site was automatically upgraded to 5.8. Now any time I try to load the WP editor I get a blank page. I see many others have run into the same problem, so I’m sorry to be redundant. But I’ve checked out the solutions on these tickets, below, and am am still stuck …

I installed the health check plug in, selected the “troubleshooting” tab, saw all plug ins were disabled and the 2020 theme was active. The blank editor page persisted.

I’m using an updated version of chrome on a Mac. Astra them and Elementor Builder. Only have 5 very basic plugins (plus now the health check makes 6.)

I followed instructions on one ticket to check my browser console for errors in red text and there are a lot …

I just started this process with WP at the end of June, and have zero-to-no technical skills. Am still able to edit some content on my site using the Elementor editor, but as far as i can figure, I need the WP Ed. to access things like header, footer, forms, etc.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

p.s. I have ensured that all plugins and theme are updated.

plug ins were disabled and the 2020 theme was active. The blank editor page persisted.

Try MANUALLY updating. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately, most of this is over my head. (Everything from Step 4 onwards).
I was under the impression that by using WP I could edit everything at the front end, and not have to concern myself with back-end technical language and issues … seems I am in over my head.
Guess I’ll have to do some research on steps 4 & etc.

    `Step 1: Replace WordPress files
1 Get the latest WordPress zip (or tar.gz) file.
2 Unpack the zip file that you downloaded.
    3 Deactivate plugins.
4 Delete the old wp-includes and wp-admin directories on your web host (through your FTP or shell access).
5 Using FTP or your shell access, upload the new wp-includes and wp-admin directories to your web host, in place of the previously deleted directories.
6 Upload the individual files from the new wp-content folder to your existing wp-content folder, overwriting existing files. Do NOT delete your existing wp-content folder. Do NOT delete any files or folders in your existing wp-content directory (except for the one being overwritten by new files).
7 Upload all new loose files from the root directory of the new version to your existing WordPress root directory.

NOTE – you should replace all the old WordPress files with the new ones in the wp-includes and wp-admin directories and sub-directories, and in the root directory (such as index.php, wp-login.php and so on).

Manual updating is far more likely to result in errors. Relying on one browser is problematic. I think this major reworking of WP is not working well with older browsers. Try some different ones. Download eg Waterfox, Firefox. Worked for me. They will run on older Macs. What version of the Mac OS is it?
There is a plugin to revert WP to the previous version – WP Downgrade – which could help troubleshooting.

    Thank you Digbymaass.
Yes, the warning notes attached to the manual update instructions did sound rather dire.
My Mac is 6 yrs old. Not sure of OS version and I can’t check just now. But I can manage downloading another browser, or installing a plugin. Thanks for specifying which one …

Try to resave admin user, it`s work for me

    Thanks! I’ll try that.

I had this issue updating from 5.3 to 5.8. I am using a completely custom theme that was built on a Bare Bones theme. I ran the automatic update and when I went into the editor, the page was completely blank.

I tried a different browser (that didn’t have anything cached) and I was able to see the editor again.

I went back to my original browser and cleared the cache. I was then able to see the editor.

    Try clearing your browser cache.
