WP edit question pricing way to high and missing free buttons question

Okay, I really don’t think there is much more I can explain here that has not already been covered in the articles I wrote (esmi’s links above).

This plugin is not Ultimate Tinymce. Ultimate Tinymce died with WordPress 3.8.3 and TinyMCE3. This plugin should not be compared with what Ultimate Tinymce used to do. It uses a completely different framework.. and broke 90% of the addons used in Ultimate Tinymce. This is the primary reason I had to code a completely different plugin; WP Edit.

I’m sorry you don’t agree with my pricing. I’m sorry the updates to WordPress and TinyMCE completely changed the code framework; busting those (free) addons everyone became so dependent on using. I’m working hard to get all these addons re-coded.. but it takes time.

Regarding my pricing; here is a little insight:

1. I have bills to pay; just like everyone else.
2. I need money, to pay these bills.
3. The free version of Ultimate Tinymce received a total of $384 over the course of two and a half years (Thank you all who donated.. I LOVE YOU!).

Now, Ultimate Tinymce required countless hours of work; over 50 updates over a two year period; the support requests, the new feature requests, etc… became overwhelming. Yet, I stayed right with it. And with over two million downloads.. that was not easy.

I don’t want to turn this into a numbers game.. but as you can see, it’s difficult to maintain a free plugin; in regards to the very little return received. I simply can’t afford, with two children, to work for that kind of money. I’m sorry.

Regarding your question… yes, the functionality to control line height is available only in WP Edit Pro. However, if you care to contact me personally, I’ll write you a function which you can use in the form of a plugin; to add the linebreak back to your site.

I won’t expect any compensation for this.. and I won’t ask you to adjust your rating. I’ll do it simply because I’m a nice guy; and I know the transition to WordPress 3.9 and TinyMCE4 has been difficult on everyone involved.

On pricing sure you done a lot of hard work and effort yes charge sure I really, really get that Josh ….and I just think it is expensive though for multi site i.e two or more sites! Also as mentioned most things anyways on your pro version I would not use ( and dare say other folk in reality and for us other then a few as already explained….)-:

Maybe the concept of charging people for the pro version down the road you might consider different levels depending on the buttons and functions they personally would use and likely want?
An idea perhaps Josh?
Why not see for yourself if price/function tiers could be the way win-win forward for you and everyone for options to the pro version based on button needs – ask folk here on the forums etc?

My feedback in general I have said yes I took on board all the things you explained in articles actually before I posted here of late to you how this is not Ultimate Tinymce and to compare etc with it.

Just not much fun when you have text already created using your plugin for line height and page breaks and have to now go back in and do 5 sites! (If we do not upgrade to pro version to achieve what we did with your previous plugin.

So how do we get some code for line breaks you kindly offered from you Josh?
also does WP 3.9 now make a better job of line break return key) and not strip it out? (not ready to upgrade to WP3.9 yet till other plugin we use get upgraded some have already)

Talking of which how do we go about transferring to your free version WP edit from Ultimate Tinymce once we upgrade to WP.3.9?
Will it save
functions from Ultimate Tinymce over into WP Edit free version?

I understand. I’m sure the price will fluctuate a little.. as it reaches a market equilibrium.

If you have not updated to WP 3.9.. then the functionality (line break) from Ultimate Tinymce should still function properly.

I will have to write the plugin for you.. which will be compatible with WP 3.9; when you make the update.

I’ll add this to my list.. and try to get started on it tonight.

When you transfer to WP Edit; all functionality which was hard coded (signoff shortcodes, column shortcodes, etc.) will still function the same way, and will not be lost.

Furthermore, there is an option in WP Edit to attempt and transfer any settings found in Ultimate Tinymce. This is under the “Database” tab in WP Edit.

I think the default WordPress editor is still removing linebreaks.. and replacing them with the &ntsb; characters (an empty space on a line).

Proper steps to replace Ultimate Tinymce with WP Edit best procedure

So if I upgrade our sites to WP.3.9 and they already have your Ultimate Tinymce last version you did and want to now replace with WP edit free version what steps specifically do I do? For example
do I de activate your Ultimate Tinymce plugin first, then install WP edit, then once installed delete Ultimate Tinymce?

please kindly advice or link me to a page and ALSO, how to carry through settings to WP edit under the “Database” tab in WP Edit

I’m still seeing people complaining about this generally although I understood it was to be fixed in 3.9.1. As soon as I get a chance, I might have a search through Trac to see if anything has happened.

So if I upgrade our sites to WP.3.9 and they already have your Ultimate Tinymce last version you did and want to now replace with WP edit free version what steps specifically do I do?

1. Deactivate Ultimate Tinymce.
2. Update WordPress.
3. Activate WP Edit.
4. Go to the “Database” tab, and click the button to import options from Ultimate Tinymce.

Since Ultimate Tinymce was a ‘hodge podge’ when it came to options storing.. all options may not convert. But, most should.

Please let me know if you experience any issues, or have further questions.

I’m still seeing people complaining about this generally although I understood it was to be fixed in 3.9.1.

I just did some quick testing, and they are still being removed. Also, it’s ‘judging’ paragraph tags and wrapping content automatically in the editor, which it did not use to do. So apparently, there was some work done in core.

I’ll get to writing an extensive article on the new behavior ??

I do not agree that the price is too high.
I paid for WP EDIT PRO.
I was just very surprised that the licence
can be used for 5 accounts.
I should restrict it to 2 accounts.
This price of WP EDIT PRO gives the warranty
that the development of WP EDIT PRO goes further.
There are a lot of plans to make
the plugin even better.
Just wait and see.

Of course you can search for another plugin elswhere
but you will not find it.
As Josh explained the framework in the previous situation
died and the other developers already stopped earlier completely.

You should not complain to Josh.
You should complain to WordPress,
who made a complete range of updates to WordPress
but still is not prepared to make
a text editor including the needed basic functions.
Font family, Font size, Font color:
Font color foreground, font color background.
That shortcoming is hardly to believe and ridiculous.

I agree with you editoronline Corina-Mex should not complain, just build the plugin theme-self I am sure Corina-Mex could build it for much less than the $37 LOL

WOW! You have got to be kidding me. I just experienced an ungrateful attitude from my 14 years old son. But this takes the cake.

I have been using UTMCE, since it had only a few extras to offer. I am also a WP developer NOW, wasn’t when I started using it. I have known Josh for 90% of the time the plugin has been out.

I became very dependent on the plugin and considered it (just the free version) a default for all my website developments. I absolutely did not design a WP site without it.

I, for one, talked to Josh about UTMCE being way too much for the average user to appreciate. I have the pro version and I still only use what suits me.

As a fellow plugin developer, I know the work and commitment that goes into not only developing a plugin for the public but also maintaining it as WP and other languages and dependencies evolve. We have to keep up with the parent platforms. We have no choice.

In fact, we have abandoned what was at the time our most popular plugin, as an extension to NGG, when they released NGG 2.0.

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly demanding and unappreciative people get for the hard work and dedication from others…FOR FREE. I expect people to recoil if their paid products do not perform as advertised. but all the plugins in the WP Plugin Directory are FREE. That means NO ONE has paid any of the developers to use them. That means we provide these out of dedication to our commitment to WP, the users, and our businesses.

I want everyone that downloads any plugin from the WP Plugin directory to tell me how many times you clicked on the Author’s donate button? I would say that 99% of the people that use FREE plugins use them with no consideration to the Author, except when it comes to complaints.

I think it is in poor taste to admonish any plugin developer that has provided any work on any platform for free. If you don’t like the plugin as it is presented, then go searching for any one of the others out there in the same category.

In this instance, why don’t the people just go and seek out Advanced Tiny MCE, if it still exists. I stopped using it when I found UTMCE and never turned back. In fact, knowing Josh as I do, I have now converted all my sites to WP Edit/Pro and have accepted the differences, just as I accept the differences that get pushed between versions of the FREE platform I use to build my sites and thus my business: WORDPRESS.

I saw Ultimate Tiny MCE evolve into what it was at the end. I expect to see the same type of growth out or WP Edit.
