wp crowdfunding not using custom theme

wp crowdfunding is not registering any custom themes outside of wp-crowdfunding plugin directory.
As per https://www.themeum.com/docs/wp-crowdfunding-theme-customization/ it should pickup themes in /wp-content/themes/workscout-child/wpneotemplate/woocommerce and it does not. My current WP theme is workscout-child.
Is this only valid with the paid version?
I have the latest free version and the code in class-wpneo-crowdfunding-templating.php is NOT looking in WP theme directory at all.
