After the update the whole installation does’nt work anymore; only solution to get access is to delete the plugin via FTP.
That’s the warnings that I got after the update:

Warning: include_once(/www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/uploads/wp-slimstat/browscap-db.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/wp-slimstat/browscap/browser.php on line 20

Warning: include_once(): Failed opening ‘/www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/uploads/wp-slimstat/browscap-db.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php:..’) in /www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/wp-slimstat/browscap/browser.php on line 20

Warning: unlink(/www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/uploads/wp-slimstat/browscap-db.php): No such file or directory in /www/htdocs/xxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/wp-slimstat/browscap/browser.php on line 26

@robf after further investigation and testing, we realized that the accuracy offered by the “light” version of Browscap is comparable to the one offered by our heuristic function, which is built into Slimstat. If your server cannot support the size of our Browscap data file, you still have the option to uninstall it and let Slimstat use the other method to determine your visitors’ browser names and operating systems.

    I hope this helps,

Fair enough, Jason, thanks for letting me know. I’ve now turned browscap off on all my sites as I can’t afford the performance hit and potential white-screening/unavailability, and accuracy without it was always good enough for me. Perhaps best to have heuristic as the default, or give the choice at install time, given the serious issues that have been caused by browscap?

Yes, that is exactly what we are going to do. We thought we were doing everybody a favor by setting Browscap as the default method, as it is more accurate, but apparently we were wrong ??
