Sometime this am, the entire contents were erased! The folder is empty. wp-includes is intact as is wp-admin.

When you visit the site, you just get an empty browser window.

Site hacked? I dunno, I haven’t heard back from the hosting co who are normally really good.

  • If the wp-content directory is empty, then chances are your only option to bring the site back is if you have a backup. Hosts normally do not keep backups for you. Good news is at least your database is likely still intact since it is not contained in the wp-content direcotyr. However your theme, plugins, and media uploads will need to be replaced with a backup.

Yeah, I was dreading that! I dont have a current backup of wp-content, it’s too large to download. However, the host may have one. I’ve made up a new wp-content on my Mac, replacing all the wp-based files with the latest versions from 4.1.1. It will put the theme back, tho it might need updating, ditto the plugins folder.

Additionally, I really need to know if the site was hacked, if so, it’s a first this hosting co, who I’ve been with for 12 years and my site has never been hacked in all that time (tho it’s suffered the usual Ddos attacks etc).

    What pain! But thanks

    Update:

I don’t know what happened but this am, the entire contents of wp-content had re-appeared! Yet yesterday it wasn’t there, I checked with an ftp client. I have no idea what happened nor does my hosting co.
