wp-content not found and themes not showing up in dashboard

Everytime I try to do an update it gives me this message: “Unable to find wp-content”. Also it when I install themes via FTP it doesn’t show up at all as an option in the dashboard.

The client set up this page where I had to change my host file in order to access it. Does this have anything to do with it? Could it be than I am in the wrong root directory? Any help would be appreciated.
