I am using WP version 2.8.5. When I installed it I failed to deactivate my existing plug-ins. Now I am unable to upgrade to the latest version neither install any plug-ins as I get an error message saying wp-conent folder not available for ubgrading or plug-in as the case may be.

How can I solve this problem?

    Thanks

    Try:

    – backing up your database.

    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – following the instructions in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

Thank you esmi, but I am in fact using the default theme. I try this anyway.
    Thanks once again
