WP Comment Notifications – Out of the box

    I’ve not been able to find what I’m looking for within docs or forum. Essentially, I just want to know how WordPress is supposed to work out of the box, no plugins..nothing, as related to comment notifications.
    Does admin receive an email when a post receives a comment?
    Do visitors who comment receive an email when someone replies to a thread for which they previously commented?

    I just need to know if I should be looking for an issue with my installation or a plugin that will make it work out.
    If you have a brief explanation or a link that would be awesome!

    You mean post or comment, and no.
