• WordPress and some plugins will not update from the dashboard and it says this in my db, at all times: “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete”.

What happens when I try to install: it firstly asks for my connection info/FTP login –I’ve never had to supply this before with WP. Then when it attempts to update, it hangs for eons on the server and I try to access the db, but I get an error page, with a message that says something like: “server is busy and down for maintenance”. This error message does not go away, until I manually re-install WP from Filezilla.

My host (100MegaWatts) insists it’s nothing to do with file permissions, or anything on their end and I myself have tinkered with setting file permissions to 777.

I don’t know what to do and I’m considering moving my client to another host. Suggestions welcome!

  • When you say db you mean dashboard, not database?

The only time I’ve had vaguely similar problems is when I’ve used an incorrect FTP password for an automatic upgrade.

In this context I’m referring to the dashboard, not a database. As far as I can recall, I’ve never had to enter my connection login info before and it is the correct FTP login info.

    Thanks for the reply!
