    Hello!

I have a site with a few custom post types and custom taxonomies.

I noticed in last couple of months that the loading speed of the backend posts using WP Block Editor decreased dramatically. Post taxonomies would take 2m to load and often would fail.

I looked at server memory usage and noticed that it was taking a HUGE amount of memory to load these posts on the backend.

    —————

After trying many solutions, I found that reverting the default WP Block Editor back to the Classic editor improved performance 10x.

    – Taxonomy loading speed was instantaneous. (and would never fail)
    – Server memory usage was 10x LESS than before.

I also tested this on another website and got the same results.

    —————

These problems were disappointing because I really love the WP Block Editor. I would love to be able to use it in the future with websites with custom taxonomies.

    So my questions are …

    1. Is WP aware that the Block Editor has much slower performance than the Classic Editor?

    2. Do you think WP will fix it? Or will it be like this into the future?

    Many thanks!

Slower yes, but maybe by a fraction of a second in my experience or a whole second or two, not “much slower.”

This problem may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to deactivate all plugins and switch to the default Twenty Twenty-Three theme. If the problem goes away, re-activate them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to deactivate all plugins and change the theme for you while you’re still logged in without affecting normal visitors to your site.
