• Hello,
I havent logged into my WP back office in a while, and today i need to make a simple change on one of my website’s pages.

I managed to log in just fine, but when i try to do anything in the Back office i land on a page that says

    URL not found
404 Oops… We’re sorry, but something went wrong.

The front end of my site works just fine…

Anyone has had this issue and can help me resolve?

    Thank you.

    Hi Valerie,

That sounds frustrating! Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Could you share a bit more information about what you’re doing when you receive the 404 error? For example, clicking any link, trying to add + save a post or page?

    Thanks!

    Thank you for replying!
It’s basically when i try to do anything in the back office.
The only thing im able to do after logging in the Back Office is see the dashboard page.

If let’s say i click on PAGES > Error
Or any other menu item of Word Press…

Thanks in advance for any suggestions on how to fix this.

    Valerie.

Okie dokie, thanks for sharing that.

So there are many reasons 404 Error (file not found) could be happening. Some have to do with WordPress and some have to do with the Hosting provider.

Here are a couple of ideas:

    1. Contact your hosting provider (e.g. GoDaddy, Bluehost). They should be able to rule out if anything is going on on their side.

    2. It could be a plugin conflict. If you’re able to access the Plugins tab in your WP Dashboard, you could try deactivating plugins individually to see if you can eliminate any as the culprit. If you cannot access this link via wp-admin, you should be able to access it using FTP

There are a couple other options that involve deleting or reinstalling things.. But giving a call into your Hosting provider’s support is a good first step.

Ok thank you. What information do i need to give them? Just that i am using wordpress and that it is not responding?

In WP back office dashboard, go to updates(if it is working) then reinstall latest version of WordPress or re-install latest version of WordPress manually by downloading from WordPress site and install it manually and then update permalinks according to your choice.

    Hello Muruali,

Thank you for your answer. I dont have access to an update section…
    Where is it?
Where do i download the latest version of WP and how do i install it?
    Thanks!

    Valerie.

Dashboard->Updates (in WordPress admin area)-> re-install/install the latest version.

    (or)

Download latest version of WordPress from www.remarpro.com
    Go to your hosting
    backup all of your files
upload the .zip file to your site folder using ftp and unzip all files.
    if site is working then
Install the required theme and plugins from your backup files one by one
If you are not familiar with this manual process, Please verify with your hosting provider.
