WP attachment pages don't turn off comments per discussion setting

  • I created a new WP test site (to explore WP gallery behavior) with a 2012 theme & 2 posts. The first post was created before I remembered to turn off comments, and I had already uploaded 22 images and inserted them as a WP gallery.

    Now in full page view (= the attachment page?) comments are turned on for all 22 images. So updated the site setting to close comments on posts after 1 day.

    HOWEVER the media attachment pages displayed by the WP gallery does not honor this setting, comments are still on for all the image pages.

    Unfortunate.

  • You could comment out the comments template in the attachment page file
    (image.php ?)
    <?php // comments_template(); ?>
    Or select “media file” or “none” as the link when adding an image.
