I’ve just installed WordPress on a free Web hosting account, using a service by the name of Awardspace. For the most part, it’s been working great, except when I try to access the Discussion Options page (Options → Discussion) in the admin panel. The document in question is located at
https://jenny-fa.awardspace.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php, and each time I try to visit that page, I’m automatically redirected to another page on the Awardspace site (which can be accessed here). Some other Awardspace members with WordPress blogs that I’ve talked to have experienced the exact same problem with the exact same file. Some people have also conjectured that it has something to do with the PHP file. So I was wondering if anyone could help me with this, and perhaps reformat the coding so Awardspace can display it properly. Thank you in advance.

  • Do you know if your host is running mod_security?

Do some searching here for options-discussion.php.

Ummm… sorry for my ignorance, HandySolo, but… what is mod_security?

An apache module. Google it up if you want more details.

Have you asked your host if they’re running it?

As you saw from those searches (you clicked my link, right?) if mod_security is set aggressively it can break things.

A couple of the more recent threads offer some possible ways to work-around it.

Whoops…problem resolved! I just replaced all instances of the word “op_proxy_check” in the file with “opcheck”, which did the trick. Thanks for the search link, it really helped.

If anyone else has this problem with Awardspace, please see
this particular post. It helped me solve the problem.
