I am desperately trying to install the WordPress software. I am following the directions and #6 says:

Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in a web browser.

There is no wp-admin/install.php file in the installation software files.

What the heck? I have a bunch of WordPress files, how do I install them? I’m used to seeing a .exe file. Where is the installation script?

  • Are you installing one server as wordpress is server program and there no .exe file.
If you uploaded all files and folders then all you need to do go your domain name and the install program will open

I installed the files to my server using Filezilla, I follwed the directions in the tutorial and it didn’t work.

I am very surprised how non-user friendly this whole install process is. After WordPress.com I thought it would be harder, but I’ve been at this 10 hours for 4 days now and I think I need to go to computer programming school…

Did you upload all files and folders that are in wordpress folder or did you upload the zip file that you downloaded.

If your server meets all the necessary requirements, it really is a pretty easy process.

Just to be clear, you are uploading your files to your account on a hosting service such as Godaddy, Bluehost, ect… correct?

There is no wp-admin/install.php file in the installation software files.

There is unless your upload was incomplete. You start the install process by pointing your browser to yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php

I unzipped the 3.2.1 file and then uploaded the whole thing to my server root uzing filezilla. Got back a wordpress error on the home page.

I deleted everything from the server and am in the process of reinstalling & I notice that when (due to variable connectivity), connection is lost, rather than queue files, filezilla puts them to the side and you have to manually reinstall them to the queue.

Will try to re-upload and see if it works. crossing my fingers…

If you are using cpanel check if you have way to extract the zip file is much easier.

I can’t add post to my site or add new plugins can only view the adnin page for this domain( https://internetmarketingpro2.com my login is >>

    @ govpatel & ClaytonJames –

thanks for the help and advice.

    Here is what I found:

When uploading files to the server using Filezilla, if a file is partially loaded and then times out, 1/2 of the file is in the server. You can see the file, it looks uploaded, but it will not function. I went in and reinstalled the WP software and any time it asked to replace a file & the size of the new file was larger than the old file, I overwrote it and in this way fixed the install.

Site is up and working – in the process of moving content over, changing theme & then a redirect.

    thanks again!
