Hi, I’ve been having an issue with my admin toolbar for a few months. There used to be a little comment box next to the “Howdy, user” button on the upper right corner of the screen that I could click and it would show all the recent comment and reply activity. It’s disappeared, but when my page refreshes, I can see the box for a second before it disappears again.

I’ve tried deactivating all my plug-ins and reactivating them one by one. I’ve also tried disconnecting and reconnecting Jetpack. Nothing has worked.

I’m not sure if it’s a WordPress or Jetpack or some other plug-in issue. I would love any feedback!

    Thank you!

It appears to be a Jetpack feature. I only have one site with Jetpack and it’s the only site of mine that displays such a comment item.

Be sure your site is fully up to date. Partial updates can cause strange behavior.

If all up to date, it’s likely your theme or another plugin is inadvertently removing the menu item. Try switching themes and deactivating other plugins to see when it stops disappearing on reload.

Thank you for your quick response!

I checked and everything is up to date.

I tried switching to a new theme and deactivating all other plugins. The glitch did disappear completely when Jetpack was disabled, but even with only enabling Jetpack, it still glitches; I see it pop up and then go away. No matter what I tried, it never stopped disappearing.

I’m assuming that means it’s a Jetpack issue?

    Thank you for your help!

Yes, there seems to be something wrong with Jetpack if that’s the only thing active. I suggest seeking additional help in their dedicated support forum where the JetPack experts there are in the best position to help you.

    I’ll do that. Thank you!

I wanted to update in case anyone else has this problem. I found a thread on the Jetpack support forum where they’re working on the issue.

    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/pull/29755

I was able to fix it by unchecking ‘Prevent cross-site tracking’ in my browser settings.
