wp-admin isn’t working

  • I have a site, that suffer from the well known problems about the missing save settings button and the wp-admin page isn’t working/blank page.

    In the quest for a fix, I logged into the FreeBSD server and manually upgraded WordPress to latest version by replacing the directories and files according to the official procedure.

    I also upgraded PHP to version 5.6.

    I checked the Apache site error log. All fine.

    However, all problems remained.

    I went through tons of threads and tested their different solutions. These are mostly about deactivating plugins and themes.

    The problems still remain.

    I can only login by using the old cookie with the last succesful login.

    I would like to know, what is causing the problems and how they can be solved.

  • Have you tried using WP_DEBUG in wp-config.php and setting it to true may be some errors is thrown when it is logged in ?

    I tried using WP_DEBUG. It has no effect. All, that I am seeing, when I enter the login details and submit them, is the error message.

    The XXX page isn’t working
    XXX is currently unable to handle this request
    HTTP ERROR 500

    There is no error in the Apache site logs.
