wp-admin going blank with ne contributors

Some background:
Recently I have had problems with my site going down.
1. it was down and Bluehost told me to rename .htaccess and check my permissions which I did and it came up.
2. next day down again. I did the same. did not work. I deleted my commentluv plugin because it just upgrades, and I am up again.
3. down again today. checked my error file which had an error on the wp stats dashboard and deleted that. also renamed .htaccess again. I got in and found over 450 spam messages. so I changed the setting discussion and added a lot of blacklisted words and tightened up how long comments are open. I added Spam Free WP plugin.
I think I am good.
Now for my problem: I am adding contributors for a special program in January. When I do a dummy test, I have a problem. I tried logging in with the dummy setting and I get a blank screen. Then I cannot get back into the admin panel – also blank. I tried deleting Spam Free WP, but it is still a problem.

I need to get this going so I would appreciate your help.
