• Between last night at about 11 pm est and this morning, almost my entire wp-admin folder has disappeared from my wp install.

About 90% of all my wp-admin files are missing. Thankfully, I did a wp xml file export yesterday afternoon, but without my wp-admin files, I have no idea how to import it.

Can anyone suggest any help, and does anyone have any ideas on how this could have happened? I can only assume I was hacked, as I didn’t run any processes overnight. I’m not sure where to check to confirm this, however.

I have a VERY large blog, going back to 2007, and I’m frantic at the thought of having lost all my data. Can anyone help?

  • As long as you have a backup of your database, you shouldn’t lose anything. Your site should still function without the /wp-admin/ folder, you just won’t be able to log in. You should just be able to reupload the /wp-admin/ folder to via FTP.

I have no idea why they would randomly disappear. When you get back in, you should change/update your passwords for both your WordPress login, and your FTP/Databases.

There must be more that’s missing, as the entire blog is now missing and will not load.

I will log in to powweb and cross my fingers that there’s a current back up.

I’ll also follow your advice about changing all of my passwords.
