For that to work properly, on the server you’re having the WordPress, you need to make sure that its under a subdirectory named “blog”, that way it should work.
I’m having a similar setup for one of my sites, where
https://example.com/ is a static site, whereas https://example.com/store/ is loaded from another server via nginx proxy_pass.
I’ve put that WP installation in a subdirectory named store and it works fine for me.

Thanks Gagan! This did the trick! Turns out I was being too clever with config and all.. After moving the wordpress install to blog and making just a few minor modifications, I was able to get the site working properly.

    Always welcome donovangrundy ??
