• I have a problem with my WordPress admin giving me a Page Not Found when I try to log in.

I retried, and was able to go in, but then all the other pages in the Admin are giving me the same message – Page Not Found.

Has my blog been compromised? Why has this happened?

    Version is WP 2.7.1

  • you might have had a corrupted install or bad reference links. I think the easiest way is to reinstall. Are you on your own domain name and in which directory did you install the blog? Also, did you create the database before the install. Finally was this after an upgrade. A little more details will help us get to the solution for you.

I installed the blog on its own domain name and in the public_html directory….everything was fine, and the last time I posted there last month, there was no problem at all.

That’s why I say it happened suddenly, and I am baffled.

No, I did not upgrade it recently. Does this sound like the work of a hacker?

PS: I did move the blog to a new host last month though. Cpanel transfer. But when I made my post last month, everything was ok.

doing a post doesn’t seem to show any issues in the back unless it becomes really shaky – which is what seems to have happened here. Only thing I can suggest is the following:

    1. Reinstall from scratch BUT back up your DB of posts (will not backup images and files) through PHPmyadmin. There is a tutorial here for this
    2. Make sure you have .htaccess (if you use a unix server) in the root as well and ensure its properly configured (i.e with the correct permissions). If not, your root can get visible to the public and someone may tinker with your install.

    Thanks. Will reinstall it now.

So, basically backup and delete all the WordPress files and reupload a new copy?

The problem STILL exists, but it is the

    https://www.MY-Site.com/wp-admin/plugins.php

When I go to the Plugin page, it says the Page is Not Found.

I have uploaded a new copy of WordPress from my computer…doesn’t solve the problem.

I’ve cleared cache…still the problem is there.

    ??

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

You could also try deleting the .htaccess file in your WordPress root directory and then resetting your permalinks back up again.

The problem is I cannot go to the Plugin Admin page at all…I cannot see any plugins, because the “Page is Not Found…”

Have already uploaded a full new copy of WordPress….but doesn’t do anything.

    Everything else seems ok.

It seems the connection between the plugins.php file and the rest of WordPress is broken.

Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

If you can log into the Admin area and see an empty plugins page, then that’s fixed the problem and you can rename the plugins folder back again. But be careful when activating your plugins. It’s possible that one of them caused this problem in the first place.

I believe I have stumbled onto a bug in WordPress. It is a CONFLICT between WordPress 2.7 and perhaps 2.8 that has to do with PHP 5.2.10

Because I have a coder friend and after testing with PHP 5.2.9 the problem does NOT exist. ONLY with PHP 5.2.10.

Since some hosts have upgraded their servers to 5.2.10….be prepared to see this problem again.

WordPress team….can we have a response here? This seems to be a BUG.

A similar problem is also recorded here with NO solution as yet.

    I have also to add:

My web host told me this is a WordPress SCRIPTING PROBLEM, and asked me to contact the WP team. Naturally they won’t say it is due to PHP 5.2.10 and I don’t think they will downgrade their PHP either.

I really hope the WordPress developers take notice of this problem and fix it. It seems to be an incompatibility issue with WP 2.7 and 2.8 and PHP 5.2.10

    Report it via Trac.

I usually use Safari. I swapped to Firefox and it now lets me get into wp-admin. I’ve reset Safari’s cache and the problem persists. I reckon it’ll get its act together at some point though.
