• I was trying to follow the instruction to make make /wordpress directory accessible from my domain (jthreadgill.com). Now I’m having 404 problems and can’t seem to fix the problem. Here’s what happened:

    1. I followed the directions for copying index.php from /wordpress into my root directory and changing the file. I didn’t see .htaccess anywhere (showing hidden files) so I didn’t move that.

    2. When I accessed my domain of jthreadgill.com, my blog showed up but with no theme.

    3. I went to https://www.jthreadgill.com/wordpress/wp-login.php, it allowed me to input my username but then took me to https://www.jthreadgill.com/wp-login.php, which doesn’t exist.

    4. I removed index.php from my root directory so that my temporary index file shows up at jthreadgill.com, but I’m still having problems within the /wordpress directory (see #3).

I can’t figure out how to fix this. I’ve cleared cache and cookies and I’m still having this problem. Please help.

  • Hi,
    A couple of questions:
    – did you take a back up of the site before you made any changes? Then you could start over just to see if you missed a step.
    – did you follow the instructions here?
    – can you get in touch with your host and find out why you can’t see your .htaccess file? I know that on my host if I tweak the wrong setting .htaccess won’t show up and I have to go click a link to get it to appear.
