I had changed my admin URL to a custom URL address to access the admin area. Two days ago I was automatically signed out of Admin and my custom URL stopped working. I used FTP to disable All In One WP Security plugin to get back default wp-admin url. But the problem is that I am getting 404 error for the default WP admin address.

I flushed W3T cache but it didn’t work. I disabled both the plugins, hard refreshed my browsers but still getting 404 error for my admin page.

Have tried different browsers and different computers, but same result.

    Need some urgent help.
    Max

Hi Max, make sure you also removed any plugin entries in the .htaccess file. Please also check the following URL Reset Settings Configuration and htaccess File Content Using a Plugin.

Let me know if this helps you.

    Hi mbrsolution

I haven’t tried the plugin you mentioned for resetting configuration. I’ll do it once I am home. In the meantime, could you please tell me what I may need to do in .htaccess file and if that will be enough to resolve the issue?

    Thanx

Delete all the code between and including the tags in you .htaccess file.

    # BEGIN All In One WP Security
    # END All In One WP Security

    Hi mbrsolution

    Yup, it worked, finally ??

But now please tell me what is the status of W3T plugin and the security of my website? What do I need to do next? I also need to set a custom admin url and never get signed out of it automatically.

Thanx a lot for your help buddy. Looking forward for next round of instructions.

Hi Max, have you enabled the security plugin again? If you have what settings have you enabled in the plugin? If you haven’t you can read some of the tutorials in the following URL wordpress-security-and-firewall-plugin.

If you have any more questions please let me know.

    Kind regards

    Hi mbrsolution

I have reactivated the plugin and it has automatically picked up old settings, which means I will be again logged out of the admin in a few days and will face the same issues all over.

What should I do now? I did check the address you mentioned earlier, but a to-the-point way forward would be great.

    Thanx

Hi Max when you reinstall the plugin if it ask you to enable previous settings, you should say no to that message.
