In WordPress 6.1, the menu management system has been updated to a new block-based editor called the WordPress editor (also known as Gutenberg). This new editor allows you to create and edit menus using blocks, rather than the old system which used a separate menu management page.

If you prefer the old menu management system, it is not currently possible to restore it in WordPress 6.1. However, there are a few options you can try to get a similar experience:

Install the Classic Editor plugin: This plugin will restore the old WordPress editor and allow you to create and edit menus using the old menu management page.

Use a theme that includes a menu management system: Some themes come with their own built-in menu management system that you can use instead of the WordPress editor.

Use a plugin to manage your menus: There are several plugins available that allow you to create and edit menus in WordPress, such as WP Menu Manager or Nav Menu Roles.

    Thank you.

Installing Classic Editor didn’t solve the problem.
It’s an absolutely killer decision to remove the default menu manager.

+1 – please remove the false information about the classic editor plugin reinstating the menu manager – it does not.

and +100 about removing the menu manager entirely – this was a bizarre choice that was not made in consultation with the larger wordpress community, which would have told you about all the work and problems with backward compatibility you were creating for users and devs.

I would also like to say that removing the menu in this way is very annoying as it is no longer intuitive how to update the menus…

…creating extra work for a bunch of people who now have to figure out (A) how to edit the menus and (B) the implications of the new menu system to other parts of the website.

After poking around, I find the editor and when I try to manually edit the nav bar, I get this message:

    “Convert to links

To edit this navigation menu, convert it to single page links. This allows you to add, re-order, remove items, or edit their labels.

Note: if you add new pages to your site, you’ll need to add them to your navigation menu.”

    Convert to links?

That is strange and confusing wording considering the menu items are already links…amplifying the issues.

It feels like a change to make a change and not to actually improve the user experience.

Please rollback or allow people to easily go back to the old system (that worked really well and was very intuitive from day 1)
