I’m using the Listable theme, and since the WP 6.0 update, subcategories of my job listings are no longer included in the total count of their respective parent category. And this shows in the WP Job Manager “regions” and “categories” widget featured on my homepage.

Ex: I have job listings in California (13), Florida (20) and Idaho (6), which are subcategories of “USA”. Because “USA” is a parent category, it would show before the WP update, the summ of ALL its sub/children categories. In my example, “USA” would show 39 listings (the summ of California, Florida and Idaho). Since the WP 6.0 update, subcategories are no longer counted in their parent category. So now “USA” shows 0 listings, instead of 39 (before the WP 6.0 update).

This bug affects “tags”, “categories” and “regions”. All parent categories, tags and regions now show 0 result, instead of the summ of their children categories, as it was before.

Here you can see how the above described issue behaves on the same homepage running two different instances of WP (one running WP 5.9.3 and the other running WP 6.0):
WP 5.9.3: https://www.fleamapket.com (parent categories like “Canada”, “USA”, “Europe” show the total summ of their children categories)
WP 6.0: https://fleamapketstg.wpengine.com (parent categories like “Canada”, “USA”, “Europe” DO NOT show the total summ of their children categories)

Would you mind investigating this issue? This would be fantastic. Even a snippet of code I could use to customize the plugin’s code.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @nikkoboy,

I just checked both sites and they are showing identical counts for the parent categories on both. Are you still seeing the discrepancy with the parent categories when you take a look at it?

It’s possible when you updated there just needed to be some time for it to update the counts, or the theme needed to be updated.

@michaelnutt thank you so much for taking the time to check the sites and for your answer. Unfortunately, I’m still seeing a discrepancy between the two sites, although I’m browsing it from different devices and web browsers. However, if I re-install WP 5.9.3 the problem goes away. I’m not sure what’s causing this issue with WP 6.0. I uninstalled all plugins, and I’m still having this issue unless I downgrade my site to WP 5.9.3. I reached out to Listable (the theme running WP Job Manager) two weeks ago to ask them if it’s not a compatibility issue on their side, but they haven’t replied yet.

I checked my site with https://geopeeker.com/ and it shows the same issue from different locations around the world. So this does not seem to be an isolated issue linked to my browser or computer. :/ Also, it seems this bug is only visible to signed-in users, but deactivating the cache plugin doesn’t prevent this from happening either. As soon as I’m back to to WP 5.9.3, everything works fine. This is weird

    Hi @nikkoboy ,

    > This bug affects “tags”, “categories” and “regions”. All parent categories, tags and regions now show 0 result, instead of the summ of their children categories, as it was before.

Core WPJM does not include tags or regions; these are part of your theme (Listable), or another plugin made by Astoundify (WPJM Regions); see:

    https://pixelgrade.com/docs/listable/pages-and-content/layout/organizing-listings-regions/

    https://pixelgrade.com/docs/listable/pages-and-content/layout/organizing-listings-categories-tags-amenities/

    > And this shows in the WP Job Manager “regions” and “categories” widget featured on my homepage.

WPJM does not include a widget for (job) categories, or regions, as mentioned above. Also, WPJM does not include any sort of mechanism for displaying a count (of job categories or jobs) so that also is coming from a 3rd-party script.

So, as Michael noted, this is most likely an issue with Listable.

That said, if you’re have a valid license for the Job Tags plugin made by us, please contact us via support form, as we cannot provide support for premium plugins in the forums.

    Best,

    Dear @cena,

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. It makes sense that Listable might be the culprit here since it also seems they haven’t compatibility-checked their theme with WP Job Manager for at least the last two releases (also, search by keywords using the search field on Listable, returns incoherent results in versions later than WP Job Manager 1.32.3 + breaks CSS). I reached out to them, but I don’t expect much from them as #1 they usually take 2-3 weeks to get back to their customers and #2 they do not address core compatibility issues linked to 3rd-party plugins as they now invest as little time as possible in maintaining their theme (which also has compatibility issues with W P6.0)

Once again thanks a lot for taking the time to help me understand the problem.

    All the best,
    Nick

    Hey Nick,

You’re very welcome! We did our best to assist you, we do hope the folks at Listable will get back to you sooner than later ??

I’m going to mark this thread as solved. If you have any further questions or need some more help, you’re welcome to open another thread here. Cheers!
