WP 4.4.2 still uses default ftp rather than sftp plugin- solved

This excellent plugin allows updating WP using a more secure connection (SSH vs FTP) and retaining more secure file privileges (644), avoiding the common update failure due to file permissions. After activating the plugin (0.7.1) on an existing install, updating WP (4.2.2) still attempted to connect via ftp. Editing wp-config.php to comment out WordPress update method solved the problem.
