My clients site is set to auto update and I checked the webpage and get this error message:

Warning: require(/home/highmark/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/version.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/highmark/public_html/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 30

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/highmark/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/version.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php’) in /home/highmark/public_html/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 30

It auto updated to 4.1.3 on April 23rd and then 4.1.4 on April 27th, so I’m not even sure if 4.2.1 is the version on the site FTP. The site runs the Enfold theme.

Just looking for some help and guidance. Thanks!

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thanks James. I tried both options you provided. I can only see WP files through FTP so I logged in, changed the directory to “plugins.hold” as indicated in the link with no results. The admin login page still gives the error message. I also tried renaming the theme folder as indicated with no results – just error messages on both the admin login page and the actual site URL.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Hey James – I did that and it seems to have corrected 90% of the problem. My issue now is that many of the media files are displaying as broken image links. As I mentioned before I’m using the Enfold theme and I’m trying to figure out if it is a theme issue or WP issue. So, I switched to another WP theme and the images still show up as broken links.

However, this is not site-wide. This issue only seems to happen in certain galleries and single images. Anything theme based shows fine, it’s anything that I’ve uploaded that seems to not display. Currently I have the site under a maintenance page while I figure this out. Any other advice you may have is greatly appreciated!

Hm, I wonder if it has something to do with the whole under construction thing.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
