WP 2FA is causing ManageWP to disconnect and I’m unable to reconnect. What’s strange is that out of 20+ sites, this is only happening on two of them and it just started recently after months of working without issue. All sites are using the connection key method from ManageWP. No errors or warning are being logged to the debug log. ManageWP support hasn’t been able to resolve it.

    Any insights?

Thank you for using our plugin @huxxco

I am sorry to read about your issue. Can you please answer the below questions to help us identify the problem?

    1. Do you know what could have changed since this “stopped” working? Could it be since an upgrade of the plugin, or something else?
    2. How does MangeWP connect to the sites? Can you elaborate on this? Sorry, we do not have experience with this.
    3. Do these 2 websites have anything different from all the other websites on which the setup is working?
    4. How have you determined that it is WP 2FA that is causing this disconnection?
    5. You said that once the connection is dicsconnected, you cannot even connect back. What is happening here, are you getting any particular error or notification?

The more information you can share with us the easier we can identify the root of this problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Apologies for the delayed reply here. Thanks for helping.

    1. I haven’t been able to identify a specific pattern. These two sites are both using plugin combinations that the other 20+ sites are using and all have the same versions, etc.
    2. ManageWP is a dashboard that allows you to manage multiple sites from a dashboard to update plugins, WordPress versions, etc. You can either connect by entering WP admin credentials (which doesn’t work with 2FA) or they have a method using a “connection key” which is a unique identifier for the site. There’s not much documentation on it: https://managewp.com/guide/getting-started/add-website-managewp-dashboard
    3. No, these use the same plugins as many of the other sites that are working fine.
    4. I have deactivated all plugins, successfully connected ManageWP, activated WP 2FA, and then it disconnects. I have also enabled all the plugins except WP 2FA and it connects fine.
    5. Unfortunately there’s no error shown, it simply says it’s not able to connect. Also, neither ManageWP nor WP 2FA is logging any errors to the debug log. I have spoken with ManageWP support and they suggested using a different 2FA plugin.

Thank you for the details @huxxco

We will try to reproduce this and we’ll let you know if we need further information. In the meantime, if you get more information from your end please let us know, maybe ManageWP can share some error logs or something similar.
