I’ve noticed that there is a whole thread that began after the release of WordPress 2.9 (On facebook) of a small community of people that have the same issue like me.

Our site has stopped finding the thumbnails right after we’ve upgraded to the WordPress 2.9. Any share to Facebook can result in hours of “Searching for thumbnail” and nothing will be found. In addition to that, it sometimes would not even sync the title itself and just show the destination url. This is also the problem with Digg.com submission, it may even tell me that the url does not exist!

We’re really frustrated and were trying to downgrade to 2.8 but unsuccessfully and now we are stuck. Any suggestions?

    Here is our website: https://www.bloginity.com

Note that all the posts after the upgrade will not be able to be shared.

  • Has there been any update with this issue? It’s been ongoing for me for several weeks now. I am not sure what I can do but I really do need to be able to post thumbnail previews. I tried the suggestion of adding that bit of code to my header but didn’t have any luck.

    My blog address is https://brianmatiash.com/blog.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

I was able to make -some- progress in getting thumbnails to post when sharing. I read someone that a person exported their image out of Lightroom into Photoshop and used the ‘Save for Web’ option. I did the same, keeping only the color profile and copyright info.

When adding that image to my blog post and sharing on Facebook, the thumbnail image displays as it always had.

This leads me to believe that it has something to do with the jpeg file handling of Lightroom (perhaps) as nothing else changes in my process.

So, for the time being, it looks like I have to take a few extra steps to get this to work until a more streamlined solution appears.

    Hope this helps.

I am running into all sorts of oddities with trying to troubleshoot this issue.

I read somewhere that a person had luck bringing his image into Photoshop and using the ‘Save for Web’ option before embedding his image onto his blog post. So, I tried that and it actually worked.

Here is the odd thing. I usually prep a week’s worth of images for my entries every Sunday. So, I went ahead and did the Save for Web routine for each of the upcoming week’s images. I then prepped the articles and went on my way.

The problem is that when I would go to publish the next day’s article, the thumbnail would, once again, disappear when sharing. So, I tried re-saving the image using the Save for Web in PS and re-applied the newly saved image to the blog post. And sure enough, it worked.

I don’t want to start speculating over what it could be but so far, the ONLY thing that works is saving the image the day that the article is posted and then sharing it. I have no idea what else it could be. All I know is that this is a very bizarre and most annoying issue and I am very surprised that it hasn’t been resolved yet.

Honestly, I’m basically convinced at this point that it’s Facebook being stupid, mroe than anything else (I had problems with a post from CNN yesterday, so it’s not JUST WP).

So far I have 100% success IF the image is in-line in the post (which … I do for visual effects about 80% of the time anyway). Thumbnails have been hit or miss, but the ‘Save for Web’ in GIMP seems to work.

Has anyone reported this to FaceBook?

I had submitted a ticket to Facebook support about a week ago but haven’t heard anything about it. Wouldn’t be surprised if the coding for their new site redesign played a role in this problem.

    Still, it is extremely annoying.

    Yep, me too.

What is the best way to get <link rel=”image”> into a post header? I’m trying Custom Fields and not having luck:

    Name: link_rel_image
    Value: <link rel=”image_src” href=”https://www.domain.com/wp-content/uploads/image.gif&#8221; />

hi guys…i can’t even get the post title when sharing on fb…the only thing i get is the link…any idea?thanks

I’ve got this issue too and it’s really annoying me. My blog: https://www.picturedujour.com . I’m using Highslide–I wonder if that could have anything to do with it? Lately I’ve been getting what I think is the generic Gravatar logo when I post permalinks to my FB page.

Same problem. Thumbnails (IMG) from WordPress (2.9.2) blog to Facebook not loading! Why? What happened? Please, Help Me!!!

Same here…it’s driving me nuts and since I’m a photographer I kinda need the images to appear on my fan page or the blog entry goes by unnoticed!

It’s Facebook not following their own protocol. Between your theme and your RSS, Facebook is NOT consistent in deciding what to pick up and what not to with your images ??

I hesitate to pitch another 3rd party app, but … I’ve heard good things about https://www.involver.com/

(I solved the problem by leaving FaceBook, but that was an ideological thing. It worked on two of my sites but not the third until I turned that site into BuddyPress. FB’s seriously weird.)

I had a similar problem so I upgraded to wordpress 3 and used this plugin, solved all my problems ??

Did anyone find a fix for this? I’ve been having the problem since upgrading to WordPress 3. All my posts before the upgrade show thumbnails, titles and descriptions when sharing on Facebook, but nothing other than the boring URL after upgrade.

Interestingly enough, this is only a problem for my posts, since all pages, including the homepage of https://colorfultimes.com shares on Facebook just fine.

    Any thoughts?

I’m using addtoany and have the same problem. pictires (thumnails) do not show, only the description. I did not put the meta, it used to word on WordPress 3.0 ant then it stopped. I see that other wordpress sites work well.

did anyone discover what is provoquing the problem ?

Is there any chance the image size might have something to do with it? I’ve resized a few of my images to make them smaller (around 10% of their original size in most cases) – down to about 20-40kb each. I’m waiting for Facebook to re-scrape the page, while checking again every few hours just in case. Has anyone else tried this?

Someone else suggested that some plugins might cause communication issues between WordPress and Facebook. Has anyone seen a list of potentially troublesome plugins?
