• Just upgraded to WP 2.8 and so many functions are not working properly… Went to dashboard and tried to drop down the screen option and noticed it doesn’t work on any screen…

Tried to just click on the arrows to drop menu selections down – doesn’t work…

Who did the QA? How do you roll it back to 2.7.1

WP 2.8 should still be a beta until further QA is completed… This was just more frustrating than useful..

  • Just found something else.

If I go into Comments and click on Reply under any given comment, the only thing that happens is the page scrolls down…there’s no way to actually reply.

If I do this from the Recent Comments box in the Dashboard, however, it works as expected.

“Just don’t ever feel the “NEED” to push a new release if it’s – Not backward Compatible” has not been “QA” and for sure make sure it can at least do what it did before… Users are a creature of habit and will slowly add new functionality and brag all over the internet”

    Thx Mod!

I am having problems also with the screen options, I cannot move any dashboard panels, and I cannot hide any panels.

I have narrowed it down to the Intense Debate plugin. I have ten plugins on my site and when Intense Debate is disabled the screen options work fine.

FYI, I may have a fix:

I had the same issues (incompletely-loaded dashboard, non-functioning pulldowns, etc.) with my recently-updated 2.8. I disabled a few plugins for starters, and things got better, but it didn’t solve all problems. I started getting error messages that read:

“Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted”

A Google search for that phrase yielded this thread, which included a fix that worked for me:
    https://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=14500

So I edited php.ini in my public_html root directory to increase the amount of memory allocated to PHP processes, went into my cPanel to and voila! Everything is working again. I reactivated all plugins that I had deactivated earlier, and all is working again. So far.

    I hope this helps others.

I just installed a fresh wordpress using fantastico and I said OMG, the widgets drag & drop doesnt work. All my previous wordpress installation (2.7.1) are perfectly fine, so I guess i’ll not upgrade them yet.

    Fixed it.

In my case, I use 1and1 shared hosting and PHP 4 was the problem.

Forced use of PHP 5 by adding the following line to .htaccess file in root wordpress directory:

    AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

Now the dashboard functions (drop downs, screen options, drag-and-drop) work as designed.

ok, i checked bluehost & has version 4.4.9 at the moment. so i guess wordpress 2.8 needs php5? but when you download this file I dont see any “requirements” or can someone point it to me please? so I would know before I update or install a version. thanks

Hello WORDPRESS – ANYONE AT HOME?

Why isn’t anyone working on this?
Why are you still putting a flag on the dashboard saying update to 2.8?

    This is madness!
I can’t do anything until this is fixed.

    C

Switching to php5 on GatorHost did not fix the problem for me.

FWIW it’s rather bizarre. If I go to the dashboard using the Site Admin link on the front page. The drop downs work. If I go to the dashboard via edit post, drop downs don’t work. Either way I can’t create new categories or add post tags as nothing works any more.

I’m running PHP 5.1.2 and the Screen Options button also doesn’t work

I had the same problems with drop downs and widgets. Both solved when I deactivated a certain plug-in – Category Icons. Another one – NVoice was causing blank page on posting or updating posts.

My blog works wonderfull with drop downs and I’m using the revolution theme, maybe certain themes don’t work anymore?

WTF, WordPress? Fix this or roll us all back to the last version that (sorta) worked.

Thanks mitchlewis. I too am on 1 and 1 and adding:

    AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

to the .htaccess file worked for me.
