wp 2.5.1 upgrade

I attempt to follow the upgrade instructions – including running /wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php which tells me my database is up to date.

my wordpress deployment is still showing v2.5 in the admin screens and still includes the links indicating to upgrade to 2.5.1

This may seem like a basic question – but I assume if I had successfully upgraded I would see v2.5.1 and/or the links asking me to upgrade would disappear.
