• Hello,

A lot of the comments I receive on my wordpress blog have smilies without a space in front. For example:

“Hi I think this entry is interesting.”

With previous WordPress installations, the graphical smilie would show up just fine. With WP 2.1, it looks exactly what I just type above (no graphical smilie). WP 2.1 requires a space between smilie and any other character. Can this be modified to previous WP configuration? Thousands of previous comments on my blogs are now not showing smilies correctly.

I take it that WP developers don’t know how to fix this problem either? Here’s another funny situation…

If the smilie is the last thing in a paragraph (for comments), the paragraph break is NOT recognized unless there’s an additional space AFTER the smilie before doing a paragraph break.

please someone fix these smilies. how did wp 2.1 mess everything up?

    I wouldn’t jump to such conclusions ??
They simply do NOT visit and read the forums…
So, you’ll need a volunteer helpers that is as enthusiastic about the smilies as you are, and is better at coding than we are.

They don’t look at the forums? I thought this is how we communicate with them via troubleshooting, esp since the cause was the WP upgrade itself. I’m pretty certain it’s not my server since I installed 2.1 on several sites, a few as upgrades and the rest as fresh installs.
