    Hi,

    I got a problem …
I run a site on WP1.5 for which we have started to send out our first newsletter (to arround 70.000 subscribers).

The responce to the mailing was quite large so WordPress couldn’t handle the load anymore.

    “Error establishing a database connection”

Obviously I don’t want the website to go down again on the next mailing. Is there ANYthing I can do to reduce the chance of WP going down again without upgrading to WP2.0

(I plan to upgrade but not just yet cause it’s a pretty large site).

    All advice/help appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

I’d suggest that WP can handle a huge load — but how about your server? What sort of specs do you have (cpu and ram, in particular). Might want to visit with your host on that one.

WP2.x would get you some built-in (albeit a bit limited) caching.

All that aside… You might want to look at some of the caching plugins that might help with the load. Here’s one that seems popular https://mnm.uib.es/gallir/wp-cache-2/

    HandySolo,

    server specs: Intel P4 2.8 / 512MB RAM / HD 2x80Gig Sata25

We’ve just ordered an extra 1.5gig RAM, we’ll see how much that helps. Thanks for the link to WP-cache !

that 512 should be at least a gig. no excuses ??
