WP & PostgreSQL

Are there any plans to enable WP to be used with PostgreSQL? I know this topic was talked about way back when but it’s still an issue for some of us. Running both MySQL and PostgreSQL on a server just for WP is not a particularly good use of resources. In fact, it kept me off WP for quite some time. Whilst doing a big bang effort is probably not justifiable, surely over time the SQL can gradually be re-factored to be DB independent. If this had been started four years ago when the original request had been made, perhaps by now we would be seeing PostgreSQL support at very little cost. Will this still be an issue in another 4 years?
