• Keep getting the following error

ERROR: Dropbox API: (7) Failed to connect to api-content.dropbox.com port 443: Connection timed out

I’ve checked with my VPS host, port 443 is open and we can telnet to the dropbox api URL successfully, and dropbox authentication is confirmed (and working) but uploading just fails every time for dropbox

Chose to go with UpDraftPlus plugin instead since it’s more reliable at the moment.

Real shame as I’ve been a big fan of BackWPUp until now.

  • Sorry, but the (7) CURLE_COULDNT_CONNECT (7) Failed to connect() to host or proxy. is a error with the connection not in BackWPup.
Did you have test the connection to api-content.dropbox.com or to api.dropbox.com Did you have test ssl or normal connection.
    Does UpDraftPlus works ?

yes my VPS host tested the connection to both dropbox urls over port 443, no connection errors to dropbox API

I’m using UpDraftPlus with Google Drive now, which is working perfectly so have abandoned BackWPup altogher for now, I don’t have time for troubleshooting

I understand that you have no time for troubleshooting. But it issent a problem of BackWPup! And you gave use one star for a what where we can’t do anything.

well I use a UpDraftPlus with great results, and I rated the BackWPUP plugin on user experience from a WordPress user’s point of view, which was poor, so I stand by my 1 star review.

I find it really disappointing when a user gives a 1 star rating when their poor experience is due to a problem on their hosting.

Others reading this review should not give any weight to this review.

I’m wondering if the API changed? Mine was working fine until February, then started throwing this error. I’ve just confirmed communication in telnet to api-content.dropbox.com via port 443, so it is not a communication issue for me.

I’m seeing this come up the last few days now as well. Given @djhaystack’s comment and another comment on UpDraftPlus, I think something might have changed with Dropbox.

Dropbox has change the API urls silently. The new urls are already in the last update of BackWPup. It seems to help for BackWPup users.

I find it really disappointing when a user gives a 1 star rating when their poor experience is due to a problem on their hosting.
