So I am planning on launching a wordpress multisite platform for my clients which will serve a specific purpose relating to their industry.

My question is am I safe in calling my services/solution a cloud based solution since it is a single install of wordpress sharing the same database etc??

Or should I refrain from using that term and as this does not fit the cloud service bill?

    Thanks,
    Danny

No, it’s not a cloud service unless you installed it on the cloud (like amazon). Even then, Multisite, in and of itself, is not cloud.

And don’t bump your posts please ??

The hosting setup may not be necessarily a cloud based host/although I may use cloud hosting. But from a client standpoint offering a solution through multisite would appear to a customer as a cloud based software/web solution I would think? They are using a solution without any physical hardware themselves form a pre set web solution that they sign up for, use and manage all from the web?

I know that defining the cloud can be difficult due to it in many cases being a marketing term but I feel as though you can also look at me having 350 client sites all using the same theme/solution etc to run their sites from one install of the product cloud.

Just my thoughts and wanted to see what others thought. I’m trying to approach my marketing in the best way.

But multisite doesn’t, by definition, use distributed servers. It’s a hosted service, yes but not cloud based per se. Well, not IMO. ??

So then I guess a question would be can we differentiate cloud computing vs. a cloud web solution? Almost like SaaS?

A managed WP Multisite solution would be SaaS (I mean, it is with WordPress.com which is pretty much that).

But it’s still not a cloud unless

    a) You’re on cloud servers
    b) You’ve setup WP to server from distributed servers

Now you CAN do b, with HyperDB or SharDB, but that’s only kinda.

I would not call this a ‘cloud’ solution at all, I would call it SaaS.

    Thanks for the responses!
