I’m amazed by the number of plugins that include functionality just like this. Would including this in core mean they could remove that part of their plugin? It would mean leaner plugins, a unified interface, and one place to go to get the system report to include when requesting support. It seems like a good idea in every way.

I was surprised to find it in Matt’s list of priorities for this year. But it makes so much sense. I’m hoping this means what I think it does (outlined above) and will make plugins better, support easier, WordPress simpler to manage, and poor hosts easier to identify.

    Hiya,

You are right in your presumption, parts of this plugin have actually been proposed and worked on for core, but the 5.0 release process had put it on hold.

Other plugins and themes will be able to expand on what information is provided in the debug screen through the use of filters and actions, so they do not need to create their own, there will be (eventually, they’ll of course need to update to get on board) one unified place for all of this.

Cool. That sounds great. I hope it happens soon. Then we just need unified notifications! : )

Don’t tell anyone, but we’ve been looking at that too! ??

But really, we have in relation to the new editing experience, and it will hopefully also be included some time in 2019 if things go as I hope (I don’t make the final call of course), as the current approach is a jarring experience to users with the amount of notifications that often pop up.
