Please read the description of the plugin again then remove or review your review. It is an automatic renamer based on the title. Pro features such as manual renaming (and
more to come) come from additional requests. Please be careful when you intend to hurt a plugin for which the developer tries his best to keep it updated and the support flowing. It is not an easy task.

Actually he is right, images already uploaded cannot be renamed, so we are not hurting anyone we are just telling people that unless they go pro, they can’t rename images already uploaded

images already uploaded cannot be renamed

Of course you can rename the images that were already uploaded. Try to change the title of that media, like it is stated in the description of the plugin. The filename will change automatically. That’s what the plugin was made for originally and it has never changed. The Pro features have been added afterwards and I don’t think I can be blamed for adding features to a Pro version on top of the Free one…

they can’t rename images already uploaded

But they can and that’s why I don’t understand you guys. If you have a problem and it’s not working for you, then let’s see why. But this doesn’t make sense. Of course it works as expected and as stated.

I think you could make it clearer in the description. I downloaded it and installed it before I realised that manual renaming isn’t available. When you say in the description “By default it does it automatically…” you are implying that there is a non-default way of doing it. It would be clearer if you specifically stated “The free version does not allow manual renaming”.

In the description, it is written: This plugins allows you to rename physically the media files by updating their titles.. That’s the main description.

In the details, yes, it is said that By default, it does it automatically depending on the title of your media. That’s because the plugin works with its own filter, and the default filter implemented does that depending on the media title, but a developer could make his own little filter and change the way it is renamed. So yes, of course there are many ways of doing it, and for free.

But yes, I will add that the free version does not allow manual renaming it that makes things more clear. I will ship the change in the next release.

That’s good news. I think it will be easier for every one.

If you are going to change the description, you might also want to look at the sentence that you quoted. “This plugin allows you to rename physically the media files by updating their titles.“.

I think that sentence is ambiguous. When I read it, I thought it meant that the plugin will allow you to change the title of the image, and then will automatically rename the file based on the change you have made to the title.

I think what it actually means is that you have to change the title yourself, manually, and the plugin will then change the filename.

Yes, exactly ?? I am thinking of using this description:

This plugin physically renames the filenames of you media when their titles are updated. Theirs links in the posts, pages, widgets (and more) will be also updated accordingly. This behavior can be tweaked through filters.

In the detailed description, I wrote this:

It automatically renames your media filenames depending on their titles. When files are renamed, the references to it are also updated (posts, pages, custom types and their metadata). There is also a little dashboard called File Renamer in Media that will help you rename all your files at once. Advanced users can change the way the files are renamed by using the plugin’s filter (check the FAQ).

You could perhaps add this to make it even clearer.

This plugin physically renames the filenames of you media when their titles are updated. Theirs links in the posts, pages, widgets (and more) will be also updated accordingly. This behavior can be tweaked through filters.

Note that this plugin will not allow you to change the filename directly. You need to change the title of the media in the standard WordPress Media Library. This plugin will then change the filename be the same as the new title.

    Anyway, good luck!
