    Hi,

I was referred to this plugin by Pippin at EDD because I want users who are already members of a site to be able to download files free, without added measures (as EDD’s own free download addon requires). However, I want the site I am building to use both EDD and their Amazon S3 addon which provides a time limited link for downloads – this prevents clever souls from accessing the site and downloading everything with a download bot. Will this work at the same time as the S3 addon?

    Thanks

    G’day bristoltutor2,

Currently, no. This add-on simplistically takes the URL for the download file and presents it on the website as a link. The Amazon S3 add-on stores a relative reference to the S3 file, so a) it won’t work, and b) even if it did work it wouldn’t be the time limited link (they get created on demand).

I do have plans for supporting such things — which would also support download stats — but I won’t be working on that for another month or two.

Given what you’ve described, I imagine that a better solution for you would be Download Monitor with its S3 add-on. Check with the authors, but I think it does exactly what you’re describing.

    cheers,
    Ross

    Thanks for the answer, appreciated.

To be honest, one or two other issues cropped up today and I realised that although EDD is undoubtedly a super product, it isn’t really what I need. Without an ability to import data that is used in their addons (in addition to the core products) it means each product must be in whole or part manually created….which is fine of you only have a few. Our estimate is that it would take about a week to manually create/edit all the items we plan to add. Sob..

It looks like MemberPress will be the solution, to be honest.

    Thanks for your time.
