• I have this plugin loaded permanently on all sites (3.5.1 and 3.5) on my system and it works well. I use nginx as a reverse proxy with apache handling only .php calls. This way I can use all the .htaccess facilities so the sites work exactly as normal.

nginx_proxy_cache_purge is in mu-plugins, owned by nobody with group www-data so it does not appear in the dashboard at all.

Where users are logged in, apache is (relatively) busy even though static stuff is still of course served from the nginx cache. One of my sites has a forum and therefore most users are logged in rather than just passing by. I was thinking of using a caching plugin for that site alone.
