I had many problems with unreliable email distribution in WordPress (e.g. from Contact Form 7). After installing the plugin and configuring an authenticated SMTP connection, everything works perfect. The configuration is self-explanatory and straightforward. So the review could be a 5-star, if it hadn’t the following two flaws:

    1. There is an option to override all other plugin’s email configurations, and I have enabled this option. It works perfectly for e.g. Contact Form 7, but it does not work for Jetpack (Jetpack emails still have a sender address [email protected]). This is a minor flaw, as I will not use Jetpack emails any more, but I think its worth mentioning.
    2. What really annoys me is the installation of WP Forms together with WP Mail SMTP. I use Contact Form 7 for my forms, I like it, and I don’t want to switch to WP forms. But I now have a permanent top level entry “WP Forms” in my WP-Admin UI which I will never use and can’t get rid of. Moreover, WP Forms permanently reminds you of the fact that you have not yet defined a form…this is really annoying. WP Forms should be a separate plugin, and not be installed together with WP Mail SMTP! If that’s not possible, there should be AT LEAST a possibility to disable it completely (regarding messages and WP-admin UI). This is the reason why WP Mail SMTP does not get 5 stars.

    Hi, @dillhausen!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear that your email deliverability has been improved with the WP Mail SMTP plugin.

I’d like to help address your concerns directly.

    Regarding the Jetpack From Email

Please kindly know, that WP Mail SMTP uses a native WordPress wp_mail() function to send emails. It means that any email sent through the wp_mail() function on the website will be routed through our plugin.

But we’ve noticed, that Jetpack uses its own method to send emails, not the wp_mail() function. That’s why the “Force” options in the WP Mail SMTP do not apply to the Jetpack emails.

If you decide to use Jetpack again, you can reach out to the Jetpack support team and ask them to enable sending emails via the wp_mail() function if it’s possible so emails will be routed through our plugin.

Regarding the option to install WPForms as an additional plugin

WPForms plugin is not bundled in the installation of WP Mail SMTP. The option to install WPForms as an additional plugin is only available in our Setup Wizard and only if this specific option is selected during the setup process.

We intended to provide great starter tools for popular/related needs while keeping the option to uncheck if anyone was already using an alternative.

Also, you can uninstall the WPForms plugin by following the next steps: go to your website Dashboard -> plugins -> find the WPForms plugin in the list -> Deactivate -> Delete.

Thank you again for sharing your review. If you have any questions or further feedback feel welcome to let us know.
